Hot Zone Design; Reducing Cancer in Firefighters

We would like to thank you for your participation in the recent 2017 Metro Fire Chiefs Conference. This year’s schedule included Hot Zone Design; Reducing Cancer in Firefighters, a presentation by Paul Erickson, FAIA, Principal of LeMay Erickson Willcox Architects.

Hot Zone Design has taken root and is changing the fire industry. After advocating awareness of cancer in firefighters and developing a system of categorizing spaces by risk within the fire station based on exposure to toxic chemicals and carcinogens, Paul has continued to advance fire station designs by including enhanced decontamination protocols and spaces within new and renovated stations.

Mr. Erickson is dedicated to improving the quality of life and longevity of firefighters. His passion for the subject has led him to embark on a national speaker’s tour to educate both architects and fire industry representatives around the country.
