Martin County Fire Training Facility

LeMay Erickson Willcox Architects teamed with REG Architects to provide programming, master planning, design and construction administration services for the Martin County Fire Training Academy. Co-located at Witham Field, a public use airport in Stuart, FL., the training center is master planned to conform to FAA safety regulations for location and height of all structures. Wind patterns were carefully evaluated to eliminate any safety or health issues caused by smoke drift from live burns. The Academy features an Academic Building providing classrooms, offices, lounge/breakout spaces, outdoor classroom, apparatus bays, and PPE storage/cleaning rooms, decontamination rooms, toilets, and lockers for the trainees and staff. The active training areas are configured as a “cityscape” including a three story live burn building, a 4 story training tower, and a gas prop area.
