Fontaine Awarded Platinum!

CHARLOTTESVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT NO. 10

FONTAINE AVENUE STATION AND TRAINING CENTER

Designed to achieve a LEED Platinum rating, the Fontaine Avenue Station and Training Center is located on one of Charlottesville’s designated entry corridors, and as such is treated as a “gateway” to the City. The building’s marquee is a three-story transparent glass public entry facing Fontaine Avenue. Not only does this public entry serve as a memorial for the victims of 911 by displaying artifacts from the North Tower of the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, but immediately incorporates the use of daylighting into the space helping to achieve the LEED Platinum rating. The design also incorporated a rain water harvesting cistern for grey water use in flushing systems and hose downs, photovoltaic panels, low SRI roofing and pavement, native plant species, high-efficiency HVAC systems including standing column geothermal wells, and regional materials with recycled content.
