City of Fairfax Fire Station No. 33

City of Fairfax Fire Station No. 33 is a is a new 22,000 SF fire station designed to replace the existing 10,000 SF, 2 bay station constructed in 1978. The new facility is designed as a 3-bay station with accommodations for up to 14 fire fighters per shift. Due to the constraints of the 0.95 acre site, the dormitory areas including the Kitchen, Dayroom, Dining Room, and Bunkrooms are located on the 3rd level that spans across the Apparatus Bays. Administrative Offices are located on the 2nd level, and practical training areas are provided on a Mezzanine that is open to the Apparatus Bay below. The first floor functions include the Apparatus Bays, Bay Support spaces, and a Lobby/Control Room. In order to support safe and rapid response from all areas, stairs and sliding poles are provided at central locations on both sides of the Bays. The new design also represents the latest development in Hot Zone Design principles to support decontamination of personnel and equipment after operational events.
