City of Summit Fire Headquarters
Serving as the only fire station for the City of Summit, the new 33,000 SF Headquarters facility features four bi-directional bays to house the department’s entire fleet of apparatus, headquarters offices, and on-site training facilities. Due to the constraints of the site, the administrative offices and dormitory areas including the kitchen, dayroom, dining room, and bunkrooms, accommodating up to 24 fire fighters per shift, are located on the 3rd level that spans across the apparatus bays. Mezzanine areas on each side of the bays provide opportunities for practical training to occur within the station. The first floor functions include the apparatus bays, bay support spaces, a lobby/control room, and a fire prevention education room. In order to support safe and rapid response from all areas, stairs and sliding poles are provided at central locations on both sides of the bays. The new design also represents the latest development in Hot Zone Design principles to support decontamination of personnel and equipment after operational events.
